Franck Ribery has revealed that he considered leaving Bayern Munich only to reject advances from a number of Europe s elite clubs.

The 33-year-old has won 18 major trophies, including six Bundesliga titles and the Champions League, since moving to the Allianz Arena from Marseille in 2007.

Bayern claimed to have turned down an offer of €65million plus Jose Bosingwa from Chelsea just two years after Ribery had joined a decision chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge claims was a key point in their redevelopment into a major footballing power.

Ribery has now admitted that he was tempted when the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester United and Juventus came calling, but credited president Uli Hoeness and Rummenigge for convincing him to stay.

Valencia still want Hernandez

According to a recent report from Marca, La Liga side Valencia are still interested in signing Javier Hernandez. It’s been no secret that they’ve been sniffing around the Mexican forward for quite some time now, following an initial £7 million bid. The Hammers are believed to want up to £12 million instead for the former Manchester United and Real Madrid star, despite the fact that his goal scoring tally has dried up a bit in recent times. The forward is widely considered to be one of the most likeable players in European football right now, and it’s been that way ever since he entered the equation with United back in 2010. He’s certainly gone through inconsistent spells in front of goal and he’ll be the first one to tell you that, but he’s still one of the hardest workin…

Man Utd winger Antony appears on Brazilian TV to deny assault allegations

Manchester United winger Antony has spoken on Brazilian television denying allegations made against him of violence towards women.

The 23-year-old earlier this week was dropped from the Brazil squad after accusations of physical aggression on a number of occasions since January towards his former girlfriend Gabriela Cavallin, which are being investigated by police and which he denies.

Since then, Brazilian newspaper Extra has reported that influencer and law student Rayssa de Freitas in May 2022 filed a police report against Antony alleging she sustained injuries in an incident involving the player and another woman after a night out in Sao Paulo.

Meanwhile, banker Ingrid Lana told Brazil’s RecordTV that in an incident at Antony’s home in Manchester in Octobe…

Mourinho open to managing in Germany

Jose Mourinho has managed in Portugal, England, Italy and Spain in his coaching career and he could be going to his fifth different country. Former Manchester United boss is open to an approach from the Bundesliga, as he confirmed to the Portuguese Record.

I would like to win a third Champions League with a third club and to win a fifth league in a fifth different country. But I do not always have what I want and my ambitions are not limited to this , Mourinho told Record.

The Portuguese already won the league titles in all of the four countries he has managed in, with Porto in Portugal, Chelsea in England, Real Madrid in Spain and Inter in Italy. On top of that, he has Champions League trophies from 2004 and 2010 to his name and now Germany is being mentioned…

Atletico Madrid v Barcelona: Can Simeone end his lousy record?

Atletico Madrid host Barcelona on Saturday in the first showdown of the season between two of LaLiga s real title contenders.

The Catalans have won all seven of their opening matches and already have a five-point lead over second-placed Sevilla, placing them firmly in the driving seat in the title race.

Atletico, along with Barca and Valencia, are unbeaten in the top flight but will be nine points behind them if that run without defeat comes to an end at the Wanda Metropolitano.

This match has been a fascinating fixture since Diego Simeone took charge but he has a remarkably poor record in it, despite the success he has brought to the capital club since taking over in 2011.

But could this be his chance to turn the tide, now that Ernesto Valverde is in the…

Guardiola delighted with Man City spirit to see off ´special´ Ipswich

Pep Guardiola has praised Manchester City s spirit to bounce back and overcome an Ipswich Town side he described as special .

Sammie Szmodics gave the visitors a shock lead in Saturday s Premier League contest at the Etihad Stadium, but City recovered to win 4-1.

Erling Haaland scored a hat-trick the first of those coming from the penalty spot while Kevin De Bruyne was also on target for the home side.

Ipswich gave Liverpool a tough time of things on the opening weekend, albeit losing 2-0, while they also gave the reigning champions a scare.

We played really good, but the opponents made an exceptional action and credit to them, Guardiola said at his post-match press conference.

When I see how we started, [I could see] how much respect we have fo…

Diaz on his way to Roma?

According to a recent report from Corriere dello Sport, Mariano Diaz’s agents have offered him to Roma with the expectation being that he will end up earning a whopping €4.5 million every single year.

The Real Madrid forward just hasn’t been able to lock down a place in the starting XI, which many fans predicted could wind up being the case before too long. Real has a parade of top stars that could, and do, feature much more regularly in their plans than someone like Diaz who still needs time and room to grow.

Roma are on the verge of putting together a really strong squad from top to bottom, and they could build quite a lot of that around Mariano. Whether or not he wants to take the jump over to Italian football is a different matter altogether, but warming…

Guardiola honoured that City are top dogs in Manchester

Manchester City will seek to reassert themselves against Manchester United in Wednesday s EFL Cup semi-final, with their status as the leading team in the rivalry for much of the past decade a source of pride to Pep Guardiola.

City have not finished below their neighbours in the Premier League since United s most recent Premier League title success in 2012-13, winning three subsequent top-flight crowns themselves.

Two of those came under Guardiola, United finishing a distant second in 2017-18 as City racked up a record-breaking 100-point haul.

The sides also met at the same stage of the EFL Cup last season, as City prevailed en route to a third consecutive Wembley success in the competition, although there have been signs that the local argument is starting to …
