Victor Lindelof: Scoring more goals is next step for Manchester United

Victor Lindelof says Manchester United must keep building after Erik ten Hag’s below-par side fought for a fourth narrow win in five Premier League matches.

This has been a difficult second campaign to date for the Dutchman, who oversaw a ninth loss in 17 games in Wednesday’s 4-3 Champions League collapse at Copenhagen.

United rallied at a packed Old Trafford on Saturday and Lindelof’s second-half goal secured a 1-0 win against unfancied Luton, easing pressure before an international break they head into in a surprisingly good spot.

To score a match winner in front of the Stretford End is special.

It´s not psychological – Solskjaer not concerned by semi-final record after derby defeat

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer put Manchester United s latest semi-final heartbreak down to facing probably the best team in England rather than a psychological issue after their derby defeat to Manchester City.

John Stones scored his first City goal since November 2017 early in the second half and Fernandinho sealed a 2-0 EFL Cup victory seven minutes from time at Old Trafford on Wednesday.

United had just two shots on target as they suffered a fourth semi-final defeat out of four since Solskjaer took over as manager.

City looked ominous once again as they extended their unbeaten run to 12 matches, setting up a showdown with Tottenham at Wembley, where they will be favourites to win the competition for a sixth time in eight seasons on April 25.

Hungary 0-2 Italy: European champions down underdogs to book Nations League Finals spot

Goals from Giacomo Raspadori and Federico Dimarco steered Italy through to the Nations League finals at Hungary s expense, as the visitors claimed a 2-0 win in Budapest.

Heading into Monday s final fixture in Group A3, Hungary needed only a draw to complete a remarkable run through the competition to next year s four-team fight for the top prize.

But Roberto Mancini s European champions, still smarting from their failure to qualify for the 2022 World Cup, delivered a composed performance to break their opponents hearts in a taut encounter.

Marco Rossi s side can nevertheless take pride in their achievements, following a campaign that saw them defeat England twice and Germany once to finish second in the end.

Norwich City 0-2 Watford: Deulofeu leads 10-man Hornets to first Premier League win of season

Gerard Deulofeu scored one and set up another to secure a first Premier League win of the season for Watford away to Norwich City on Friday.

The forward struck in just the second minute at Carrow Road before teeing up Andre Gray to double the lead early in the second half.

Christian Kabasele was sent off 65 minutes in, but Watford held firm to move above Norwich and Southampton into 18th place in the table.

Deulofeu scored after only 76 seconds, the second-fastest Premier League goal Watford, when he stole possession from Emiliano Buendia in the Norwich half, tricked his way into space and slotted the ball past Tim Krul.

Norwich were largely blunt in attack and found themselves further behind 52 minutes in when Gray s attempted backheel from Deulofeu s …

Lampard admits Chelsea lacked ´personality´ in Leicester draw

Frank Lampard called on Chelsea to show more personality  after the Premier League draw with Leicester City which left them still searching for a first win of the season.

The Blues were held 1-1 by the Foxes on Sunday after Mason Mount s opener was cancelled out by Wilfred Ndidi s second-half header.

It left new boss Lampard with just one point from a possible six after last weekend s 4-0 loss to Manchester United, while his team were beaten on penalties by Liverpool in the UEFA Super Cup in midweek.

We let Leicester get back into the game and in the second half I wasn t very happy, said Lampard, who won the Champions League and three Premier League titles as a player at Stamford Bridge.

We didn t have enough calmness on the ball and we allowed the…

Crystal Palace want Wan-Bissaka?

According to a recent report from Sky Sports, Crystal Palace are reportedly eager on bringing Manchester United defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka back to the club.

Wan-Bissaka signed for the Red Devils for £50 million back in 2019 but hasn’t been able to maintain a place in the starting XI under Ralf Rangnick despite an initially positive start to life at Old Trafford.

The belief is that Palace are interested in bringing him back to the club with a loan deal being the most likely option due to his high wages.

Patrick Vieira knows and understands what his side need to do in order to vault themselves into potential European contention next season following a campaign full of high points including an appearance in the semi-finals of the FA Cup at Wembley.

Just as pertinent is their financial situation, which will reportedly force them into having to sell one of their most valuable assets.

Aston Villa have announced the signing of Republic of Ireland international Glenn Whelan from Stoke City, paying a fee of £1.25 million rising to a potential £2m for the midfielder.

Whelan has signed a two-year deal for Steve Bruce s Villa as they attempt to return to the Premier League, joining new signings John Terry, Ahmed Elmohamady and Sam Johnstone at the club.

The 33-year-old will be hoping for regular football in a World Cup year and is targeting promotion from the Championship with Villa this season.

I have enjoyed happy times at Stoke City but now is the time for a new football adventure and what a club to join in Aston Villa, Whelan said.

We may be in the Championship but everything about this club screams Premier League and it s the job o…
